GM's strike has trickled down to my job.

Overtime has been outlawed. A few mills are not running.
    No layoffs yet.

mal, are you a machinist? i really respect machinists. either milling or lathe. i did it for a year during my apprenticeship and i fucking hated every second of it. i didn't mind the cnc stuff so much, but the manual stuff broke my brain. i went down the electrical engineering road as soon as i could

GM is up and running. Full production. Why did you think you're slow? Your company has a yearly production targets to meet, the strike doesn't affect that.

The company runs on sales. Our customers order material as they need it to fulfill their own orders from customers who order what they need when they need it.

In other words: manufacturers do not store up material. They order what they need when they need it.

Yes, for instance water heater manufacturers. But our US automotive chain is a huge portion of our sales.

              Let me re-phrase my answer.

We sell tubing to many industries, but the chain up to GM is a huge portion of our sales.
